by Laura Bacak, Case Management Supervisor

Each quarter, the Case Management department solicits nominations for physicians who have displayed excellence in our 5 Key Indicators of Success as they pertain to case management.  We seek to recognize physicians who display concern for patients by keeping case managers informed of patient/family concerns and discharge needs, physicians who are respectful of team members’ clinical judgment and act as mentors to case managers.  In addition we look for physicians who consistently communicate with consulting and primary care physicians to coordinate care.  We recognize physicians who willingly combine their efforts with case managers to provide cost-effective care and physicians who demonstrate that all members of the hospital community are valued.

The recipient of the 2010 fourth quarter, Case Management Rockin’ Doc award is Dr. Padmini Kashikar.  Dr. Kashikar was honored at a ceremony on January 21, 2011 for her outstanding contributions to patient care and teamwork.  We celebrated her excellence with cake and coffee, a plaque and a warm recitation of the comments from her nominations.  We enjoyed celebrating her, meeting her charming husband and taking a moment from our busy day to recognize an outstanding physician.

Among the comments from Dr. Kashikar’s nominations were the following:

“Dr. Kashikar never fails to return a call.  She is consistently good natured and a wonderful listener.”

“She shows a respectful and caring attitude to every patient.”

“She is consistently professional, calm and friendly toward staff.  She is a pleasure to work with.”

“I would love to have her as my doctor.”

Dr. Kashikar also supports case management by sitting on the Utilization Review Committee and acting as a back-up physician advisor in Dr. Waite’s absence.  In this role, she displays the qualities indicated above and, as a result, is much appreciated.

Congratulations to Dr. Kashikar for excellence in so many categories!
