Dr. Robert Greenhow, orthopedic surgeon, is looking forward to winter. Growing up in Canada, Dr. Greenhow became accustomed to cold weather, skiing and hockey!
"I played hockey growing up in Canada and all the way through medical school...the first thing I looked for when I moved to Denver was where to find a hockey team I could play on," he said.
Dr. Greenhow has been in Denver since finishing his residency in Sports Medicine and an Arthroscopy Fellowship in Canada. He and one of his practice partners, Dr. Craig Loucks, have been friends since medical school and have done all of their training together. They came to Denver to practice orthopedics and eventually opened Peak Orthopedics and Spine at Centennial Medical Plaza in 2006.
"Over the past three years the practice has really grown," said Dr. Greenhow. They now are a group of five physicians. In practice with them are Dr. Mark Fitzgerald, Dr. Hugh McPherson and Dr. Lloyd Mobley. For the past two years, their practice has been the preferred provider for the Colorado Section of the PGA.
Dr. Greenhow specializes in joint replacement and was one of the first to do minimally invasive and computer-navigated hip and knee replacement in Colorado. Most recently, he is doing image-guided surgery in total knee arthroplasty.
"This is patient specific and allows us the ability to restore the mechanical axis of the limb," said Dr. Greenhow.
Dr. Greenhow has a passion for his profession and says his parents are probably the reason he became a doctor. His dad is a retired radiologist and his mom is a retired nurse. Dr. Greenhow has three brothers, all of whom, along with his parents, still reside in Canada, specifically in Ontario and Toronto. In fact, he will be taking a trip back home soon to help celebrate his parents' 50th wedding anniversary! Travel is something he and his wife of six years love to do. They just returned from a two week trip to Europe to celebrate their own wedding anniversary, albeit a few year less than his parents!
Dr. Greenhow has two children, a daughter who is 3 and an 18-month-old son. He and his wife started their daughter on skis at two-years-old. Next winter his son should hits the slopes for the first time. In the meantime, he can hang out in Breckenridge at the little ski place they have. As far as hockey, you know little Greenhow will be playing hockey some day...just like his dad!
